CFTC will hold a public roundtable on 24/7 derivatives trading on 15 December
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission will host an industry roundtable on 15 December on whether US derivatives markets can move to trading around the clock, the agency announced on 28 October. The event builds on a request for comment on 24/7 trading the CFTC issued earlier this summer.
The agenda covers overnight trading, tokenization, infrastructure and staffing needs, and operational readiness, with participants from across the industry. The roundtable will take place at CFTC headquarters in Washington, be open to the public and livestreamed, and the agency is accepting speaker nominations. The agenda, speakers and registration details are to be published later; in-person attendance may be limited.
Chairman Michael S. Selig said the CFTC "will not take a one-size-fits-all approach to 24/7 trading" and wants to hear industry views on round-the-clock trading across different asset classes.

What it means
Crypto markets already trade continuously, and much of the pressure for 24/7 derivatives comes from products linked to them. The phrase "no one-size-fits-all" signals that any outcome is likely to differ by asset class rather than switch every market to continuous hours at once. The staffing and operational-readiness items are where the real constraints sit: clearing, risk management and surveillance were built around market closes.
